Monopoly Goes to Space

How do you keep finding new ways to create an annual campaign theme that feels as fresh as its initial launch? When the timing aligns perfectly with a major celestial event, you aim for the stars, obviously.

The Approach

If your brand can hijack something happening in pop culture, you might just create advertising worth advertising. So, rather than shoehorning Tops Markets into the buzz surrounding the April 2024 solar eclipse, we celebrated this year’s “reach for the stars” theme by sending 1,000 Tops Monopoly tickets into space.

Of course, if you don’t have pictures, it never happened. So, we filmed the entire journey to create short- and long-form broadcast spots and video content.

Rather than shoehorning our client Tops Markets into the buzz surrounding the upcoming solar eclipse …

We decided to literally reach for the stars by sending 1,000 Tops Monopoly tickets into space. 🚀

Hitched to a weather balloon that flew more than 104,000 feet before bursting, our package raced back down to Earth at 131 MPH.

And we’ve got the behind-the-scenes pics to prove it.
